Troll Oil Field – North Sea Oil Rig Stock Photography

Seeing the Troll A oil rig up close is something pretty amazing. The size of it is incredible. If you have ever seen photos of its tow out from a Norwegian fjord you will understand what I mean. It is the largest structure ever to be moved by humans. Its total height is 472m, so what you see here in my pictures gives you no indication of the size of it below sea level.

The Troll oil and gas field is about 65km west of Bergen in the northern part of the North Sea. It is one of the largest oil fields on the Norwegian continental shelf. It began production in 1996 and is operated by Statoil.
